Warriors clear Luke Walton to talk with Lakers on head coach job Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton has been cleared to interview for the Lakers' head-coaching job now that Golden State's first-round series against the Rockets is over. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said before Wednesday night's game that Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak had called Bob Myers, his Warriors counterpart, to request permission to speak to Walton. Walton, who maintains an offseason home in Manhattan Beach (Los Angeles County), won two NBA titles with Los Angeles. Though Walton's name will be in play for other jobs, the Lakers seem like the most logical destination if he chooses to leave the Warriors. NBA rules prevent teams from suiting up more than 13 players for any game, including the playoffs. The Warriors carry 15 players on their roster, so Varejao and rookie Kevon Looney (hip surgery) were inactive Sunday. Varejao was back in uniform Wednesday night for Game 5, because Stephen Curry (sprained knee) joined Looney as the inactive players.
