LAS VEGAS — Earlier in his career, when he was one of the NBA's premier rim protectors with Washington and Denver, JaVale McGee didn't listen when coaches told him to get set defensively sooner. "I was averaging like 2.8 blocks per game," said McGee, referencing his penchant for trailing shooters to the hoop. [...] after absentminded follies and a slow-healing leg injury limited him to only 62 games over three seasons, McGee received no guaranteed contract offers this past summer. Golden State brought him to training camp because, after losing Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli in the offseason, it had no proven shot blockers on its roster. With less than two weeks until the Warriors' Oct. 25 season opener, coaches have indicated that McGee has a strong chance of earning the 15th and final roster spot. The seven-time NBA All-Star jabbed right and dribbled left, throwing Brandon Ingram off balance, before hitting a fade-away three-pointer.
