Warriors' Matt Barnes readies for Oracle Arena return With most local media stuck in the Bay Area during the Warriors' recent five-city, eight-day road gantlet, folks wanted to know: "I've received a lot of support," said Barnes, who is averaging 3.3 points and five rebounds in three games with the Warriors. Barnes, a former All-America wide receiver at Del Campo High School in Sacramento County, was considering an NFL tryout in the summer of 2006 when he tagged along with old UCLA teammate Baron Davis to a pick-up game at Golden State's practice facility. Aware that Barnes had failed to latch on long-term in each of his previous four NBA stops, Warriors head coach Don Nelson invited him to training camp. Barnes beat out several players on guaranteed contracts for the final roster spot. Even today, after witnessing two Finals appearances, Warriors fans tell Barnes they have yet to hear Oracle Arena get as loud as that "We Believe" year.
