Oracle Arena has been the home of the Golden State Warriors since 1966, the same year that it was opened. The arena opened and spent the majority of its existance named the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena. In 1997, the arena name was changed to The Arena in Oakland and then again to Oakland Arena in 2004. In 2006, the Golden State Warriors formally announced a 10-year agreement with the Oracle Corporation that would change the name once again to Oracle Arena.

In 1997, rather than building a new arena, a decision was made to proceed with a $121 million renovation to bring the facility up to par with other arenas in the league. The seating capacity increased from just over 15,000 to 19,596 for basketball. In fact, the only remaining original sections of the facility that exist are the external walls, roof and foundation.
