Warriors use No. 30 pick to add UCLA’s Looney
The Warriors selected UCLA freshman forward Kevon Looney with the No. 30 overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday — a move that could be viewed as a precursor to looming transactions with reserve forwards David Lee and Marreese Speights.The team entertained trade offers for Lee and his nearly $15.5 million 2015-16 salary leading up to the draft and has to decide whether to exercise a $3.8 million option to keep Speights, but general manager Bob Myers said the pick doesn't necessarily foreshadow a move with either player.Looney, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound 19-year-old with an almost 7-4 wingspan, is viewed as a relentless rebounder and versatile defender who is skilled for his size after sprouting from his high school days as a point guard.A McDonald's All-America selection as a point guard out of Hamilton High (Milwaukee), Looney got to know Warriors scout/consultant Larry Harris and averaged 27.9 points, 12.7 rebounds, eight blocked shots and seven assists as a senior.Looney's camp said he had a hip injury last summer, but it hasn't persisted as he played in all 36 games at UCLA and did not miss a practice because of the injury.Lee, who expects to be dealt this summer, attended...
