When Jason Richardson was informed that the Warriors wanted to honor him during Tuesday's game against the Lakers, the former shooting guard had only one question. Richardson did make the All-Rookie First Team in 2002 and won slam-dunk titles in 2002 and 2003 — but the reason Warriors fans cheered Richardson even when he returned to Oracle Arena in opponents' jerseys went far beyond numbers and accolades. In 2006, Richardson wrote an apology letter for the franchise missing the playoffs for a 12th consecutive season, had his teammates sign it and got it printed in the local newspapers. The next season, he helped a team that became known as the "We Believe" squad to win 16 of its final 20 regular-season game and snap the streak of missed postseasons. The Warriors sneaked into the playoffs in 2007 and upset the No. 1-seeded Dallas Mavericks. Richardson will be honored between the first and second quarters, getting a framed jersey from Warriors community ambassador Adonal Foyle, who played with Richardson from 2001 through '07.
