SAN JOSE — In the 15-plus months since the Warriors took him 30th overall in the 2015 NBA draft, Kevon Looney has played six games. Looney, who missed Golden State's first two preseason games with a left groin strain, returned Thursday night against the Kings and finished with no points and three rebounds in eight minutes. Kerr plans to ease him in, giving the small forward from UCLA more and more minutes as the Warriors' Oct. 25 regular-season opener nears. The slow progression is necessary for a player who, after enduring two hip surgeries in eight months, was finally cleared for contact in late August. At 6-foot-9, 220 pounds with a 7-3 wingspan, a healthy Looney could buoy the Warriors on the glass. The week break before their matchup at Denver next Friday provides the Warriors time to fine-tune their sets and implement most of their offense.
