Oh, what simpler times for these Warriors. Finally, with a 131-126 win Friday night against the Washington Wizards at Chase Center, the Warriors officially are going streaking again. The three victories came against the Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets and the Wizards. Those three opponents are a tad below the trio of teams next on the schedule when the Warriors go to Denver to play the Nuggets on Sunday, ahead of coming home for a back-to-back with the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors had three players score at least 20 points between Kristaps Porzingis (28), Gui Santos (27) and Brandin Podziemski (22), who also had 10 rebounds and fell three assists shy of his first triple-double. He scored eight first-quarter points that game and was even hotter out of the gates this time. The big man quite literally was the Warriors’ offense early on.Within the first three minutes, Porzingis scored the Warriors’ first 11 points off three 3-pointers and a cutting layup. His scorching start looked like Porzingis was in for a monster of a game. But then he scored just one more point in the second quarter, bringing him to 12 in the first half. When the Warriors needed him most, Porzingis again found his groove.Porzingis and Santos pushed the Warriors past the Wizards in the fourth quarter. Santos scored 13 points in the final frame, and Porzingis added 11. His final quarter was another example of how he can score in a variety of ways, whether it’s beyond the arc, throwing down a tip dunk or getting to the free-throw line.Triple-Double Watch When Podziemski first was drafted, he confidently said he wanted to be a triple-double machine. He saw himself as someone who could stuff the stat sheet full of points, rebounds and assists. In ways, he has. Still, Podziemski has yet to record a triple-double in the NBA. He came incredibly close against the Wizards. Podziemski was all over the game from the jump and came down with six rebounds in the first quarter. Assists and points followed in the second quarter, bringing him to nine points, six rebounds and six assists at halftime. Podziemski was two rebounds and three assists away from checking off a goal of his as the fourth quarter began. But Podziemski’s March has been impressive for a handful of reasons without his main stars surrounding him. With one game to go, Podziemski in March now is averaging 17.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. The Ball Means Everything The scoreboard showed a win, but the product was beyond poor two days prior when the Warriors beat the Brooklyn Nets by three points. It was a hard watch from the start when the Warriors committed 10 turnovers in the first quarter alone. On Friday, they didn’t give the ball away once in the first quarter. The Warriors in the opening frame had 11 assists on 14 made shots, were whistled for only three fouls and had a zero next to turnovers in the box score. Fittingly, they then had their first turnover of the game on the first possession of the second quarter when Gary Payton II’s fast pass bounced off Pat Spencer’s chest. While the Warriors’ defense wasn’t exactly on a string, the offense went into halftime with three turnovers and 19 assists on 27 made shots. Then came the third quarter from hell. If only that were an exaggeration. The Warriors in the third quarter had twice as many turnovers (six) as they did in the first half. Their six turnovers in the third quarter were the same number of assists they had, too. In the fourth quarter, in which the Warriors outscored the Wizards 39-32 for the win, Golden State had six assists and three turnovers. Steve Kerr will not be happy watching the film.
