Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor reported Sunday night, citing multiple league sources, that Golden State was attempting to trade for Washington Wizards star center Anthony Davis in an effort to lure LeBron James to the Bay Area, which became much more feasible with Warriors forward Draymond Green declining his $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 NBA season on Monday, which would have allowed the Warriors to use the $15 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception on James.
However, Golden State then agreed to a reported two-year, $40 million contract with free-agent center Kristaps Porziis on Monday, which many believed would position the Warriors to exceed the NBA’s first luxury tax apron and, in turn, lose the MLE they would have used to sign James.
