The Valkyries reached the playoffs last season as an expansion team, stunning the world, and now they’re getting greedy.They hustle into All-Star Weekend with the third-best record in the W at 19-8, behind only the first-place Minnesota Lynx and defending champion Las Vegas Aces. They are No. 2 in wins, with an 11-4 home record that sits atop the league.
The Valkyries are racing hard, hellbent on success. It’s as if they took co-owner Joe Lacob’s bold vision to heart, as it seems to be materializing before our eyes.
“I’m telling you right now, we will win a WNBA championship in the first five years of this franchise,” Lacob said in October 2023, more than a year before the Valkyries had a player, much less a roster.
And here they are in Year 2, still selling out every home game, rising from an eighth-place finish in a 13-team league to third place in a 15-team league. The Valkyries closed the first half of the season by winning eight of nine games.
