PALO ALTO, Calif. – There was something different about Steph Curry while standing next to him at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club on Monday for the seventh annual Workday Charity Classic benefitting “Eat. Learn. Play.”, the foundation he and his wife Ayesha founded to invest in the children of Oakland. Curry didn’t have a new haircut. His beard was lined up like we’re used to. But it will take some time getting used to what’s on his feet now.

His partnership with Under Armour ended after 12 years in November, creating a social media frenzy of Curry’s sneaker free agency. Curry landed on a new 10-year contract with Chinese sports apparel company Li-Ning on June 1, which extends beyond the basketball court. Choosing comfort and performance together, Curry wore a pair of champagne white Li-Ning red Hare 9 ultra running shoes to walk around the course.

Before our interview, Curry gave a stamp of approval in passing.

“It’s like those [On Running Shoes] and the HOKAs had a baby,” Curry said. “That’s what these are.”
