The Warriors made a foregone conclusion a reality Wednesday, announcing that assistant coach Luke Walton will move up a spot in the organizational pyramid to occupy the offense-focused role previously held by Alvin Gentry. Gentry was hired as the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans in June. Fortunately for Golden State, he's the lone coaching-staff loss for head coach Steve Kerr after the club's championship season. Walton, 35, has risen quickly in the Warriors' coaching ranks. He's just two seasons removed from his 10-year NBA playing career, and spent his first year as a full-time coach with the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the Development League in 2013-14.
