LeBron James on racial incident: ‘Hate ... is living every day’

On the brink of his return to the NBA Finals, LeBron James solemnly walked into the interview room Wednesday at Oracle Arena. James offered an eloquent and pointed reaction to the news that his home in Los Angeles was vandalized with a racial slur Wednesday morning. Police are investigating the incident, in which an unidentified person spray-painted the N-word on the front gate of James' home in the Brentwood neighborhood. If this is to shed a light and continue to keep the conversation going, then I'm OK with it, he said. The property manager told officers they believe the incident was captured on surveillance video, according to the Associated Press. Later in the day, James addressed the incident at length on the day before his seventh consecutive Finals appearance. "I think the most unfortunate part is I'm here right now and I can't be home to see my boys," said James, who has two sons and a daughter. In December 2014, he and several other NBA players wore T-shirts with the words, "I Can't Breathe," to honor Eric Garner, a New York man who died after a police officer put him in a choke hold.
