It's grueling, sure. But, like, not compared to a real job. The process is fun and gives weight to six months of basketball that are increasingly recognized by most (including league employees) as too monotonous and trivial. But awards hold the season together. They (hopefully) strip out blusterous hot takes and sprinkle significance onto those 82 games, affirming who really mattered and locking their achievements into a time capsule.
